Preceptors may serve as role models, mentors and supervisors of students in professional nursing programs. Their requirements in Missouri are the following:
- Possess current license to practice as a registered professional nurse with at least one year experience in the area of clinical specialty for which the preceptor is used. Graduate preceptors will need to meet additional requirements based upon the student’s selected advanced nursing role.
- Perform the responsibilities as determined by the nursing program.
- Provide written documentation to faculty regarding the student’s performance in relation to meeting designated course objectives.
