Who can take online courses?
Online courses are available to students in any degree program or attendance location. Any student regularly admitted to the University should be eligible to enroll in online courses. We strongly encourage early registration, as determined by your priority registration date, as online courses can fill quite quickly due to popular demand. Please consult the University Bulletin for individual course pre-requisites for your courses of interest, just as you would for face-to-face courses.
What is an online degree program?
An online degree program is one in which all coursework can be completed online. Online degree students are not required to come to campus, and they specifically work with online advisors for the duration of their degrees. Students entering online degree programs are restricted to only online courses unless given individual approval from their assigned academic advisor.
For more information about the online degree programs offered and individual degree requirements, please visit Southeast Online.
How do I get started with online courses?
You apply for admission to an online class in the same way you apply for normal college admission at Southeast. In order to take an online course from Southeast, you must first be admitted to the University. To find out how to apply for admission to Southeast, visit our Office of Admissions.
Once you are admitted to Southeast, any transfer credit that you have will be evaluated towards your chosen degree. After this process is complete (if applicable), you will then be eligible to meet with your assigned advisor either through orientation or an individual appointment, depending upon your student status (degree chosen, number of hours completed).
Am I required to attend orientation?
New students with less than 24 transferable credit hours typically attend a new student orientation called First Step on the Southeast Campus. If you are taking a combination of online and on-campus courses to complete your degree of choice, you’ll attend the normal First Step orientation on campus. If you are completing one of our online degree programs, an online alternative will be available to you. All students seeking online courses for the first time are asked to complete our demonstration course in preparation for beginning online coursework.
