Once you are admitted to the University, learn what steps to take to prepare for your first online course:
-
Activate and use your Southeast Key. You will be able to activate your Southeast Key 24 hours after you have been accepted to Southeast. Visit http://portal.semo.edu/ and select the link to “Activate your Southeast Key,” just below the login area. You will need your Southeast ID number in order to do this. Be sure to write down your new Southeast Key as well as the password you have created. We also highly recommend that you set up the Password Reset Facility in case you forget your new password. Your Southeast Key allows you to access not only your online courses, but also registration, financial and billing information and more. Your official E-mail address at Southeast will be in the format of SEKey@semo.edu.
-
Once you've registered, access your course through the Southeast Portal using your Southeast Key and password. If you've forgotten your Southeast Key and password, contact the Help Desk at http://www6.semo.edu/infotech/help/.
-
Find out if your course requires textbooks. Some online instructors use online alternatives to textbooks. To find out what your course requires, visit http://online.semo.edu/coursedb/courses.asp, select the appropriate semester and then your course. On the course information page, check the “Textbook Required” field to find out if your course requires a book. You can also find this information on your course’s splash page or syllabus.
-
Get your books. If you do need textbooks, you can rent them for $18.33 per course plus shipping – contact Textbook Rental via the online request form or by phone. If applicable, you can purchase your supplemental texts and workbooks by contacting the Southeast Bookstore – (573) 651-5020 or E-mail textbooks@semo.edu. Be sure to allow plenty of time for delivery. We suggest requesting books as soon as your final schedule is complete, as Textbook Rental will hold early requests until the appropriate time for shipments for the upcoming semester.
-
Acclimate to online learning by participating in our demonstration course. Southeast Online’s demonstration course will allow you experience how our courses are organized and the technology that we use prior to the semester start, as well as get feedback during the process.
