Southeast Missouri State University is a community of approximately 11,000 students and approximately 1,200 faculty and staff employees who provide instructional and other related services to the students. Classes are conducted six days a week consisting of day and evening hours. The University campus encompasses over 400 acres and approximately two million square feet of buildings. The University is part of the Cape Girardeau community which has a population of approximately 38,000. Campus safety is a serious consideration at Southeast Missouri State University. Crime is a national problem that affects even the rural area around Southeast Missouri State University. The University is a relatively safe campus; however, the University community and visitors should be aware that the potential for crime exists on our campus as it does throughout society.
