A. MINUTES: Upon a motion by McDougall; seconded by McGowan, the minutes of May 1, 2012, were unanimously approved.
B. ACTION ITEMS:
1. BSED in Industrial Education – Program Title Change to BSED in Engineering Technology Education
McGowan moved approval of the program title change from BSED in Industrial Education to BSED in Engineering Technology Education; seconded by Gathman. Rogers-Adkinson explained that the program had been updated to match the current language in the field. There was also a reduction in hours, which Cwick explained went from 139 hours to 124 hours. Doug Koch (former interim chair in IET department) and a dual appointment faculty member reviewed all requirements in the program and found redundancy. McDougall questioned whether the nine elective hours could be from any listed, or if a student had to take the grouped courses; Cwick and Deken advised they could be from any of the courses listed. Friendly amendments to the motion were: a) move UI4XX to the Senior Fall Semester; b) move UI3XX to the Junior Fall Semester; move CL002 to the Freshman Fall Semester. Hinkle advised Deken to watch the enrollment in senior level UI courses through advising. Motion, with friendly amendments, passed unanimously.
2. Interior Design Minor – Curriculum Revisions
Gathman moved approval of the curriculum revisions to the Interior Design minor; seconded by Eddleman. Bruns asked Brune to explain the item; Brune explained that the minor revisions had come to the Council in May 2012, but had been tabled due to need for six hours of senior level courses. She noted that DS206 was removed from the requirements; CM100 was removed from the requirements as it’s no longer taught by the IET department; and students can now choose six hours at the senior level. Motion passed unanimously.
C. DISCUSSION ITEMS:
1. Hinkle advised that her office has received several appeals to add classes. She asked the deans to talk to faculty to monitor their rosters, as there have been students who have attending classes and never been on the roster.
2. Starrett reminded everyone that the Higher Learning Commission Quality Check-up visit is scheduled for September 12-14. Open sessions for faculty, staff, and students will occur.
Motion to adjourn made by McGowan; seconded by Gathman. Meeting adjourned.
