Welcome to Southeast Missouri State University and to Cape Girardeau (my home town)! It is my pleasure to serve the campus community as your Provost. I am particularly delighted to serve in this capacity at an institution and in an area of the country that has such a rich history. Southeast has provided quality educational experiences for nearly 140 years, and I can personally point to many members of my own extended family and friends who have been able to benefit from the access to education our institution has provided and will continue to provide in the future.
Many of our students and visitors might wonder exactly what a Provost is and what functions they serve at the University. The Provost is the chief academic officer of the University, responsible for oversight and planning for all academic programs and academic support functions of the University. In addition, I am also the chief advocate for faculty in the upper administration and insure that we adhere to established academic policies and procedures so we can all get the most out of our high quality academic learning community. Like all others on the Southeast team, our office is here to serve our students who have made this their University of First Choice and to extoll the virtues of this great institution. Our office prides itself on our ability to solve problems and promote the success of our students, faculty, and staff.
None of these are difficult tasks. Southeast is fortunate to have a great student body, destined for success in the fields they have chosen from among our over 200 areas of study. We also have a faculty who are strongly focused on quality education and training young professionals in their chosen fields. Whether you are a student, faculty member, staff member, or visitor, we want your experience at Southeast to be the best. Please do not hesitate to contact me or the Office of the Provost staff if you need any assistance, advice, or guidance. If we can't help you, we will be happy to connect you with the office on campus that can.
Again, welcome to Southeast and we wish you the best in your academic endeavors!
Provost Bill Eddleman will be available on selected Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:30 am in the UC cafeteria to talk with faculty, students, staff, and others. He can't buy you breakfast, but you are welcome to share his table. Plan on asking questions, sharing ideas or concerns, or just discussing any topic you want. For a list of Thursdays that he will be available beyond what is shown on the schedule below, please call the Office of the Provost at 651-2063.
