To Register

Stop by the Recreation Services office located in the Student Recreation Center-North (Room 101). Paymentmethods include university charge, check, cash, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). Payment isrequired at the time of registration to ensure enrollment in the class selected. No phone registration is available.

Lifeguard Instructor

This course uses American Red Cross instruction to train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, Waterpark Lifeguarding and Shallow Water Attendant (all including first aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AEDfor the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water Rescue courses.  Instructor candidates also will become familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and Water Safety presentations.  This course prepares instructor candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluates the progress of candidates in a professional-level course.  This is a 26 hour course.  Registration is at the Student Recreation Center– North main office. 

 Course Prerequisites:
-Be at least 17 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course.
-Possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate issued within the last year or possess a current national Health and Safety Services Instructor Authorization Certificate.
-Successfully complete the pre-course session.  This includes passing the pre-course written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher for each of three sections and demonstrating competency in the pre-course skills and scenarios evaluation.
