Southeast Missouri State University

Southeast Challenge

Traveling Teambuilding is an educational adventure, leading participants to exciting discoveries about themselves and their roles as team members.  It facilitates team-building with active problem solving activities that call on participants to think, plan, take risks, and support each other.  Using ground level ropes and other portable props, workshop guides tailor each course to the established goals of a participating group.  With assistance from the guides, participants choose the type and degree of challenge they will face.

Why take the Challenge?
Groups who participate in the Challenge will benefit from an enriching workshop experience.  For many, it can be an experience with lifelong impact.  Outcomes include:

Improved individual and group awareness
Enhanced communication skills
Skill development in group decision-making and leadership
Appreciation and respect for differences within a group
Importance of evaluation and reflection
Better goal setting, planning and vision
Strengthened commitment to team goals
Sense of overall individual and group effectiveness

Who leads and who learns?
Trained Southeast staff and students guide and facilitate Traveling Teambuilding groups and activities.  All guides receive extensive on-going training.  They are committed to a safe, fulfilling program for each participant.  The workshops attract student organizations, classes, faculty members, administrative teams, and off-campus businesses and organizations.  Many student organizations have participated in Traveling Teambuilding and several professors have laid the groundwork for an especially rewarding class through this unique experience.

Where does the workshop take place?
Many on and off campus sites are appropriate learning locations.  Campus sites include the University Center, Johnson Faculty Center, residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses, classrooms, outdoor spaces and, of course, inside the main Student Recreation Center and the Student Recreation Center South Campus.  Off campus groups may choose to meet at Southeast Missouri State University, or the Traveling Teambuilding staff can travel to another location.
