Sport Clubs

Sport Clubs are student initiated and led organizations created to provide additional opportunities for participation in unique sports instruction and experiences. Sport Clubs are open to all Southeast students/faculty/staff with all skill levels from novice to expert. Sport Clubs are formed by individuals motivated by a common interest and desire to participate in a recreational, instructional or competitive activity. Sport Clubs place a strong emphasis on student involvement and develop students through physical and mental exercise, social interaction, and leadership opportunities.

What is the cost involved?

Most clubs charge dues either on a yearly or semester basis, which varies depending on the need and club’s purpose. Clubs fundraise the majority of their expenses, but are eligible for funding through the Sport Club Allocation Committee.

Do I have to tryout?

Any Southeast student, faculty or staff member is eligible to be a participant in the club. All team members are included in practice and social activities. Some clubs will have tryouts for traveling teams or competitive teams.

How much time is involved?

Time involved is determined by your commitment to the club and the level of competitiveness of each club. Clubs determine by their own process how active they will be.

What are the Benefits?

There are countless benefits to becoming a Sport Club member. Some include:
Recreational: Physical and mental exercise benefit the body and mind.
Social: Meet new and exciting people that share similar interests!
Extracurricular: Get involved outside the classroom in a structured, sport-affiliated club!
Leadership Development: Sport Clubs can’t survive without the passion and leadership of Southeast students!

Contact Jen Rose, Assistant Director - Sports and Youth & Family Programs at (573) 986-7379 or jrose@semo.edu for more information on how to join an existing club or how to create a new one.
