Take the Final—Return Your Textbooks!

Returning your textbooks is SO EASY!! There are several drop-off locations on campus during
Finals Week where you can return your rented textbooks. You can always return your textbooks during normal operating hours throughout the semester at Textbook Rental, located in the basement of Kent Library.

You will receive a postcard towards the end of the semester reminding you to return your rented textbooks which includes information regarding where, when and how to return your rental textbooks.

Don’t get stuck with the bill!

All rental books must be returned or postmarked NO LATER than 4pm the Monday after finals to avoid any additional charges. Books returned or received the Tuesday or Wednesday after the due date will be billed a $25.00 late fee per book instead of the replacement cost of the book and the original rental fee will not be credited. Rental Textbooks returned the Thursday or thereafter will be charged the full replacement cost of the textbook and the original rental fee will not be credited. All textbooks must be returned in satisfactory condition, books not in rentable condition are not returnable. Textbooks returned in unsatisfactory condition will not be accepted and the student will be charged the replacement costs of the book. Students may file an appeal regarding textbook charges within one year from the date of the charges.

Where to return your books

DURING FINALS WEEK FOR FALL/SPRING ONLY

Textbook Rental: Located in the basement of Kent Library

Towers: Check in table near the front desk Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm, and Friday 9am-3pm,

Regional Campuses: Kennett, Malden, Sikeston, Perryville and Cape Girardeau Partnership (check each location’s hours)

After Hours: The Big Red Drop Box is located in Dearmont’s Main Entrance Lobby, it will be there beginning the Monday of finals week through the weekend following finals giving students the ability to return textbooks when Textbook Rental is closed and over the weekend during finals and up until the deadline.

DURING FINALS WEEK FOR SUMMER ONLY

Textbook Rental: Located in the basement of Kent Library

Regional Campuses: Kennett, Malden, Sikeston, Perryville and Cape Girardeau Partnership (check each location’s hours)

After Hours: The Big Red Drop Box located in Dearmont’s Main Entrance Lobby, will be there from 4 pm Wednesday, through 8am Monday giving students the ability to return textbooks afterhours and over the weekend during finals and up until the deadline.

Returning by Mail

If you cannot make it to campus, textbooks may be returned by mail. You can use any box to ship your books back to Textbook Rental; you can even use a padded envelope. Please make sure it’s packaged securely to ensure it arrives undamaged. If you are reusing a box, please cover any previous labels and markings with a heavy black marker. If you are using a padded envelope, we suggest that you tape the closure to make sure it doesn’t inadvertently open in transit. Please make sure your return shipment has a tracking number.

Textbook Rental is NOT RESPONSIBLE for lost textbooks.

AS LONG AS THE PACKAGE IS POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATE, IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED LATE. WE PROCESS ALL RETURNS BY THE POSTMARK DATE ON THE PACKAGE.

How do I know if they were all returned?

Bring your Student ID with you to return your textbooks. The computer operator will scan your ID and give you a receipt, showing the status of all your textbooks. What should I do if I cannot find my book, it’s damaged or I want to keep it?

We suggest that you purchase the book before the due date and your original rental fee will be applied to the purchase price of the book. Go to the Southeast Missouri State University homepage, click My Southeast click Student SS tab, click Banner Self Service, click Student, click Textbook Rental Detail, and click Textbook Rental Detail again. ALL SALES ARE FINAL!

What condition is considered “satisfactory”?

In order for the book to be considered in “satisfactory” condition, which is a determining factor of whether we will accept it back, we ask of you to please take care of our books.

Please don’t:

  • Tear out pages
  • Damage the cover or spine
  • Stain the book
  • Spill water all over it or allow it to get wet (we cannot accept moldy books)
  • Write or highlight excessively
  • Remove/alter the Textbook Rental label on the front cover of the book
