It's hectic but rewarding! When you begin your studies as a Theatre or Dance major, your life gets busy fast!
In addition to your regular courses in the sciences, English, history, math, and other liberal art courses required for a degree at Southeast, T&D majors take on the additional responsibilities of rehearsals, performing, more rehearsals, design work, memorizing lines, more rehearsals, choreographing, set building, more rehearsals, and more performing! The Theatre & Dance program is intense and focused on making you marketable and desirable in the entertainment industry.
Actors get training in costume design, lighting design, choreography, and box office operations, as well as taking the normal series of acting, combat, movement, and voice courses.
Design students are immersed in CAD drafting, stagecraft techniques, costume rendering, sound design, and lighting design as well as taking classes in acting, dance, and singing.
In addition to taking a myriad of jazz, modern, ballet, and tap classes, dancers do work in sound, lighting, and costume design and perform in the department theatre productions or serve on running crews.
Musical theatre majors really hit it hard! In addition to acting classes, the BFA in Musical Theatre students have intensive training in dance and vocal techniques and help in the scenery & costume shops and the box office.
